# Generate a Dedicated Payment Wallet

Some mobile wallets do not display the extended public keys Paymento needs for supported UTXO-based assets. Instead of changing to a more advanced wallet, you can create a separate wallet dedicated to receiving business payments and import it into a compatible mobile wallet.

This option gives you direct control of the wallet, but it also makes you fully responsible for protecting its recovery phrase.

### When to use this option

Consider creating a dedicated payment wallet when:

* Your current mobile wallet does not expose a compatible xPub.
* You want to keep using a familiar, compatible mobile wallet.
* You want business payments separated from personal funds.
* You understand how to secure a recovery phrase.
* You want funds to arrive directly in your wallet without settlement.

### How it works

During this setup:

1. A new recovery phrase is generated locally on your device.
2. The wallet's public information is derived locally.
3. Paymento uses the required public information to configure your store.
4. You securely record the recovery phrase.
5. You import the phrase into a compatible wallet.
6. You verify the wallet and complete a test transaction.

Paymento does not need the recovery phrase after the public wallet information is derived.

### Before generating the wallet

Use a trusted device and environment:

* Use your own device, not a public or shared computer.
* Close screen-sharing and remote-access applications.
* Make sure nobody can see or record the screen.
* Avoid browser extensions you do not trust.
* Confirm that you are using the official Paymento domain.
* Prepare paper or another secure offline method for recording the recovery phrase.

Do not copy the phrase into email, chat, cloud notes, source code, or a screenshot.

### Create the wallet

1. Select **Bring Your Own Wallet** before adding the store.
2. Choose the option to generate a seed phrase wallet.
3. Generate the recovery phrase on your device.
4. Write down every word in the exact order shown.
5. Complete the recovery-phrase confirmation.
6. Save the public wallet information Paymento displays, including any available account or derivation details.
7. Continue to wallet import and verification before enabling live payments.

Never continue if the phrase was visible during a screen share, saved by an untrusted browser tool, or exposed to another person. Generate a new wallet instead.

### Import into a compatible wallet

Use a wallet tested for the network and derivation format produced by Paymento.

The wallet's recovery option may be labelled:

* Import wallet
* Restore wallet
* Recover wallet
* Use existing recovery phrase

Follow the wallet provider's official recovery instructions. Enter the phrase only into the official wallet application you intend to use.

Paymento support should never receive the phrase and cannot import it for you.

### Verify the imported wallet

Import success alone is not sufficient. Wallets can use different derivation paths, address types, accounts, and scanning behavior.

Before accepting live payments:

1. Compare the first wallet address with the verification address shown by Paymento, where available.
2. Confirm that the correct asset and network are selected.
3. Create a Paymento test payment.
4. Send a testnet or low-value transaction.
5. Confirm that Paymento detects the transaction.
6. Confirm that the imported wallet displays the funds.
7. Send a small amount out of the wallet to verify spending access.

If the wallet does not display the expected address or funds, do not accept live payments.

### Back up the wallet

The recovery phrase is the primary backup for this wallet. Anyone who obtains it can control the funds.

Follow these practices:

* Keep at least one secure offline copy.
* Store backups separately from the device holding the wallet.
* Protect backups against theft, fire, and water damage.
* Do not photograph or scan the phrase.
* Do not store it in ordinary cloud storage.
* Do not give it to employees who do not need treasury access.
* Document which wallet, networks, and accounts the phrase belongs to.
* Test recovery before the wallet holds significant value.

For higher-value operations, consider a hardware wallet or multisignature treasury process instead of keeping large balances in a general mobile wallet.

### What Paymento can and cannot do

Paymento can:

* Use the derived public information to configure the store
* Generate or assign receiving addresses where supported
* Monitor supported blockchain transactions
* Report payment status

Paymento cannot:

* Spend funds using an xPub or public address
* Reconstruct a lost recovery phrase
* Reverse an on-chain transfer
* Protect funds if someone obtains the recovery phrase
* Resolve compatibility problems inside an unsupported wallet

### If the recovery phrase is lost

If the wallet application still works, create a new wallet with a new backup and transfer the funds before the device or application becomes unavailable.

If both the active wallet and every recovery copy are lost, Paymento cannot restore access.

### If the recovery phrase is exposed

Treat the wallet as compromised:

1. Create a new wallet using a trusted process.
2. Transfer remaining funds to the new wallet immediately.
3. Create or configure a new Paymento store using the new wallet information.
4. Test the new configuration.
5. Disable the compromised store configuration after the transition.

Changing only the Paymento password or API key does not protect a wallet whose recovery phrase has been exposed.
